Production art from Juuni Kokki (Twelve Kingdoms) "Juuni Kokki" was a 45-episode fantasy series based on a series of Japanese novels with the same name. The primary setting borrowed heavily from ancient Chinese culture. Unfortunately, the novels were never completed, so a specific arc in the animation was never completed either; still, the closure up to episode 39 was fantastic, which is one reason why this is my favorite series. 12K was an all-digital animation series, so only the various forms of paper sketches were available from production: roughs, genga, douga. The few "cels" that I have are limited reproduction cels, hand-painted and all, but were not used in the actual series production. In terms of art, 12K suffers from inconsistency, sadly: There are three distinct art styles, with one being very detailed in the hair and clothing (folds and such), a middling style that's average across the series, and a very bad art style that just looks terrible, unnatural, and...terrible. Only the first two art styles are really acceptable for collecting, as far as I'm concerned. Scans were manually edited in Photoshop for higher contrast (pencil sketches don't scan very well to thumbnail sizes, so the coloration you see on-screen is darker than in-person).
