For p1620 almost all variants, already presented in this thread are still acceptable. One can get a zif cable for p1620 (from Fujitsu itself, or, for example, from www.notebook-doctor.com) and then purchase ssd's (up to 128 gb - according to ebay offers), or traditional hdd's up to 240 gb.

Ok have held off on buying one until windows 7 was out. Seeing some movement in the SSD market. From what I read one on SSD site they warn against buying any 32gb SSD. They said that they use old tech and do not provide much better performance than standard drives. However the 64gb and high driver are another story. One particularly high rated 1.8" pata drive is the ASAX Leopard. Check out the reviews at http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-x25-m-vertex,2399-13.html

maybe there is a better 64gb drive. The ASAX goes for around $225 on ebay

Can anyone comment on the latest discussion of whether to use SSD or a new hard drive to increase capacity on the P1510d? Most of the links thus far take mo to products that are no longer available

I believe a P1510-compatible SSD will provide better performance than a P1510-compatible harddrive, but you are more likely to find a HDD. Availability will be the key issue with older-model (obsolete) products. Have you considered looking for second-hand components? Depending on how much you are willing to spend it may be better upgrading to a used P1600-series or new convertible netbook.

I had enough and I am about to either smash my P1620 or buy an SSD and a 2GB module. It's just too slow and almost useless!!(XP OS) I wanted to do that about a year ago that I bought the unit but I tried to be patient till the prices become reasonable as they did indeed. So now you can find on ebay the cheapest compatible(hope so...)64GB SSDs:

"KingSpec 1.8" ZIF PATA 64GB SSD for Sony UX380 Mac Air" at about 150Euros including shipping to Greece

"Samsung 64GB 1.8" ZIF SSD (MCCOE64GEMPP)- Lenovo OEM Module" at 147Euros including shipping too.

So who u suggest that I have to trust? Kingspec that claims 67MB/s Read Speed and 51MB/s Write or Samsung that gives only 57MB/s and 38MB/s respectively but it is Samsung... I mean how accurate and realistic are these measurements and who would your trust? What I know for sure is that the internal controller is the one that practically makes the difference in terms of speed and management of data. If someone knows more about SSD issue please let me know soon!

I believe the Samsung drive you listed is Fujitsu's spec OEM SSD for the P1620; it uses SLC memory and has a reliable controller. The Kingspec uses MLC memory. Since both choices are 64GB and prices are about the same, I would pick the Samsung.

I have that Samsung drive in my P7230, which is quite similar hardware to your P1620.
The drive has been perfectly reliable and yields about 58MB/s read, 36MB/s write (peak
sequential throughput) in mine. I've had it in the machine for quite some time with zero
issues. Windows 7 Pro boots in about 35 seconds from poweron to login prompt, 15 seconds
of that time is spent in the BIOS initialization.

Thanks a lot for your info and opinions, I am more for the Samsung too so I ll go for it and hope I wont face any problem with the ZIF connector since somebody wrote before that there are two different types of ZIF apart from the number of pins (40).

I took the chance and ordered that drive from this at ebay for 175USD excluding shipping. Hope it fits in terms of pins number but I realized after and worries me now is is the compatibility issue in terms of firmware or something since that drive is made for Lenovo. Is that really an issue? If someone knows pls let me know or the experiment will show anyway and if it works this guy has more so anyone interested for upgrade will have feedback from me :)

Thnx, Ishman for the picts. I have a question. I just bought a used P1610 w/o any factory cds. I want to upgrade it to 80gb HD and install Win 7. Is it possible to install Win 7 w/o any factory cds? Can you also recommend which 80gb hard drive to buy? Thank you. Kevin

I have install Windows 7 home premium on my P1610 and all is working fine. Just have to get the drivers from Fujitsu and do a Windows update to get the correct touchscreen driver...

After that you can use the stylus or your finger...
